“Creating Scientifically Sound Solutions for Sustainable Development”
Pacific Agroecology LLC is consulting firm specializing in science, engineering, and economics research to provide expert, technical approaches to solving global problems. We are dedicated to restoring balance between agriculture and natural systems. We believe that with proper stewardship, not only are economically viable cropping systems and natural habitat compatible, but they can be mutually reinforcing. By design, we integrate multiple disciplines into our problem solving approach, working closely with our clients, including industry, agencies, and non-governmental organizations, to provide insights and guide management decisions at the interface of coupled human-natural systems.
Services
Resource Economics:
Natural resource economics deals with the supply, demand, and allocation of the Earth’s natural resources. One main objective of natural resource economics is to better understand the role of natural resources in the economy in order to develop more sustainable methods of managing those resources to ensure their availability to future generations. Resource economists study interactions between economic and natural systems, with the goal of developing a sustainable and efficient economy. Our team uses a variety of approaches, not limited to econometric, multi-objective optimization, and agent-based modeling to help our clients better understand trends, barriers, and potential vulnerabilities.
Ecosystem Services
Ecosystem services are the many and varied benefits that humans freely gain from the natural environment and from properly-functioning ecosystems. Our team develops and implements qualitative and quantitative measures of ecosystem functioning fora broad range of ecosystems, not limited to agricultural, forested, and freshwater systems.
Water Resources Management
The field of water resources management will have to continue to adapt to the current and future issues facing the allocation of water. With the growing uncertainties of global climate change and the long term impacts of management actions, the decision-making will be even more difficult. It is likely that ongoing climate change will lead to situations that have not been encountered. Our team integrates and operationalizes best-in-class approaches to water resources management, watershed assessment, and freshwater habitat restoration through a combination of modeling and field techniques.
Geospatial Analysis and Informatics
Our Geospatial Analysis and Informatics solutions team is adept at all phases of analytical solutions not limited to spatial and environmental data collection, processing, transformation, synthesis and visualization. We work readily in all aspects of conservation planning, spatial optimization, and statistical modeling. Our team has experience with a wide variety of GIS and remote sensing processes and products, from back-end systems to end-user application development. We specialize in integrated approaches to geo and hydro informatics, combining artificial intelligence techniques with deep insights from decades in the field.
