Helping local communities sustain ecosystem services is a primary focus of Pacific Agroecology LLC.
PAE is working with Mexican counterparts and local villages in Oaxaca to improve management of forest resources. Research in the coastal dry forests is examining the effects of climate change on tree diversity, forest biomass and carbon, while a separate project in Oaxaca’s Central Valley is helping the municipality of San Pablo Etla find ways to gain economic benefits from conserving its pine-oak forests through carbon offset programs like the United Nations REDD+ (http://www.un-redd.org/).
